You have recently been promoted to take over a poor performing team of ten. The team’s performance has been dropping steadily over the last five months. Among your many new responsibilities, you have been specifically asked to suggest specific ideas for motivating the team. Based on the material in this chapter: 1. What theories would you likely use? Please be specific and explain why. 2. How might these theories work together to properly motivate the team? 3. What additional information might you want to gather regarding the team?

There are various theories of motivation that are available. We cannot at the outset say that this theory will be perfectly suited for a particular team of individuals. These theories could be used only on a trial and error basis. First we can likely the incentive theory of motivation.

As the name suggests you incentivse people for their works. You provide external rewards for the work that they have accomplished. This incentive must be provided over and above their normal salary for the day. Some of the individuals in the team will be in requirement of money for their daily needs. If you going to rope in an incentive strategy, that particular individual is going to perform upto his potential and will get the apt rewards for his work. When the members of the team are going to realise that they are going to get something extra for the extra work they put in, the total attitude of the team towards wok itself is going to change dratically. Every one will get self motivated and will be egging to perform their duties to the fullest potential.

This is the first theory of motivation. In most of the cases this will work. If this doesn't work then we could go in for the other theories of motivation.
