Question

PARTS A,B ARE ANSWERED, I JUST NEED HELP WITH PARTS C,D,E (PLEASE SHOW WORK, THANK YOU)

We have the following set of tasks to build bicycles:

A) if we plan to separate the tasks into 5 workstations, what is the theoretical minimum cycle time, in minutes? (Please show all work)

ANSWER: Total Task time in a linear mode is 63 min (Adding time of each task). We are planning to have 5 workstations. So minimum cycle time is 63/5= 12.6 min

B) what is the theoretical minumum number of workstations we need to build bicycles at at throughput rate of 7 bicylces/hr? (Please show all work)

ANSWER: Throughput rate is 7 bicycles/hr. We have 60 min/hr as working time. So cycle time is 60/7 =8.5 min per unit. Theoretical minimum no of workstations reqd= Total Task time/cycle time=63/8.5=7.4 =apprx 8 workstation

Suppose we separate the tasks into the following workstations. each person at each workstation can work on one bike at a time (use these workstations for parts c,d,e)

Workstation 1: A,B,C
Workstation 2: D,E
Workstation 3: F,G,H
Workstation 4: I,J
Workstation 5: K,L
Workstation 6: M, N, O

c) if we currently have one person at each workstation, how many bicycles, on average, can be processed in an hour using these workstations?

D) what is the average utilization of the process?

for part E below, a throughput rate of greater than or equal to 15 bicycles/hr is required. we will contiune to use the workstations specified above.

e) we have decided that we need to complete these items at a rate of greater than or equal to 15 bikes/hour. If we were to replicate the entire line, how many copies of the line would we need?

Task Time (minutes) A 7.1 B 8.6 C 7.4 D 1.4 E 1.2 F 4.5 G 3 H 2.7 I 3 J 3.5 K 5.4 L 2.5 M 4.2 N 3.6 O 4.9

Explanation / Answer

c) There are 6 workstations and the time provided is 60. Then the time is 60/6=10 per unit. Average bycycles produced in an hour are then 63/10=6.3 = approx 6

d) The average utilization of the process is number of hours/numbers recorded in a time period 63/60=1.3

e)Throughput rate is 15 or more bicycles/hr. So cycle time is 60/15 =4 min per unit. To replicate an entire line the required workstations are =63/4=15.7
