The Buffalo Creek Coal Mining company was a succesfully running company back in the times of 19th century. The streams and coal mines have been helping the country in a improving the growth of a country economic status. The Buffalo Creek comprises 3 branches.
Construction Of the Dams :
The Company constructed first dam in 1960, above 600 feet upstream for gathering and dumping gob.and second dam in 1968 above the same height.The third dam was constructed in 1972 dam ranged from 45 to 60 feet in height.The dams consists wastage from the coal mines which turned the place into Black Pools. Although Dams were built. They were not upto the safety standards.A slight leakage in one of the dam caught the eye of the Officials . Disaster :
The severe rains had started hitting the dams with continous water flow.The dams were not strong enough to handle the pressure. On 26th Feb, 1972, rains started to pour out the dam with the deposited coal wastes.132 millions of coal wastes had flooded the village , leaving 4000 homeless, 1112 injured and 125 spot dead.many cars trucks and other important assests were destroyed in just few minutes. An estimated damage of $ 50 million was recorded at the time of the Flood.

Many law suits and cases were filled aganist the company. The victims sued the company for $ 64 million. The company promised to start up from the sctrach . The company was filed for cases and $ 5.5 million for the property damaged and wrongful death of the people. $ 8 Million psychic impairment. Lawyers got $ 3 million as the case wasclosed with all the legal actions taken..
