Within this scenario, you were presented with a number of issues with which you might be concerned regarding the statistical information and the crime in general. Use the information from the scenario to answer the following questions:
From the general statement taken from the victim of a crime, identify what crimes were committed in this offense. Determine which crimes are considered index offenses and how they are reported to the Uniform Crime Report, based on the hierarchy rule.
Based upon the statistics that you observed in your conference with the Sergeant, give your opinion on whether or not the reporting of this crime is consistent with the statistical trends for the jurisdiction. Explain your answer.

Index offences refer to the following 8 classes of crime - murder and non negligent homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, arson and auto theft. They are also known as Part I offenses.
As per the hierarchy rule, when there are more than one type of index offense is classified, the law enforcement agency will locate the offence that is highest on the hierarchy list. This rule will count only the highest offense and ignore all others. This rule applies only to the crime reporting process.
Reporting of this crime i.e robbery is consistent with the statistical trends for the jurisdiction. The robbery conforms to the trend in terms of crime count, the age,sex and race of person charged or arrested etc. For instance, the statistical trends shows the growing incidence of robbery of gas stations. This robbery wasl also of a gas station.
