Explanation / Answer
Greetings! Senior Departmental Staff Members
Being the chief information office of the hospital allow me to educate you on the topic of EHR and its components
An Electronic Health Record (EHR) is an electronic version of our patients medical history, that is maintained by the hospital over time, and has many components such as administrative process, communication & connectivity, decision support, dentistry, health information and data, order entry management, patient support, results management & population health management. Its important to have thorough knowledge of the components as it will help in smooth operations of the system.
a) Administrative Processes- This is referred to as the Practice Management. The administrative process is to improve the efficiency in scheduling appointments, eliminate confusions, determine insurance eligibility, etc. Such a process will help us to provide the most convenient and efficient service to our existing and prospective customers.
b) Communication & Connectivity- An interoperable system that is able to connect with multiple providers, the patient, labs, and hospitals in a secure manner. This type of communication will avoid any type of commotion and will help our patients to reach out to their problems easely.
c) Decision Support- Warnings/reminders to enhance clinical performance. Decision support can aid in drug interactions/prescriptions/prevention, detection of disease outbreaks, evidence-based guidelines, etc. Overall, it will assist us in making the best decision possible for the patient
d) Dentistry- Provides modules & applications such as diagnostic, therapeutic, or decision support applications that provide the ability to capture, store, display, and analyze digital images. This will help us to enhance our customer base in the dentistry department as EHR system in general is neglected here.
e) Health Information and Data- The electronic chart holds everything that is currently included within a paper chart. All information within the electronic chart will be used as information/data to make critical decisions. It will be a well designed interface to enable us to review the information efficiently.
f) Order Entry Management- All prescriptions are to be written electronically to reduce medical errors due to illegible handwriting. Orders are also automatically generated. This will help us grow in the logistics of medicines and provide better order management solutions to our customers.
g) Patient Support- This helps in providing the patients with educational material as well as the ability to enter data themselves concerning home monitoring devices. This will help us to assist them on prompt basis.
h) Population Health Management- Helps in analysing data to identify patients due for colonoscopies, mammograms and other screenings based on their age, gender and other factors. The office can then use automated calls to urge them to get the recommended tests as part of its population health management strategy.
Hope this memo will be a starting point for all you managers to dig deep about this topic and enhance your knowledge about the same. Also, find below a list of websites for your reference.
