One of the best things about developing a connection with a person is that you might never know when they may be a resource to you. When finding the proper contacts for an informational interview you should carefully consider their position so that may best assist you when gathering information. I would start by contacting my previous coworkers to see if they are still in the same position or if they are working in a new role. If they are in a new and improved role, I would want to know what challenges they encountered getting there way there and what they did to stand out from the rest of the crowd. Another contact I would try is family friends. I have many family friends who work in the government in fairly senior positions and all they tell is to keep learning and connect with as many people as possible. Lastly, I would reach out to recruiters to see where I am going wrong and what I can improve on. For example, some recruiters tell me I should include more action-driven statements in my resume, and others say to learn a new skill such as Splunk or Linux. The more information you can absorb from others the more you can understand what is expected in a new role.

It is true that the real worth of any individual can be found any moment of the time and we are not aware that when a person can be quite useful for us. This becomes more critical in the case of informational interviews. While appearing in these interviews, it is important to know whether the earlier co-workers are having the same positions or have promoted or changed their roles. If they have acquired a new and better position, It would be better to understand the reasons behind that. Apart from them, family friends who are working in government jobs or in some higher profiles can also be quite useful. At last, it is always better to include those points and focus on those facts which are pointed by the recruiters. All these facts will definitely help a person in a long run.

Thus we can state that learning the new roles of our previous coworkers, family and friends and feedback by the recruiters will definitely be helpful.
