Answer :

1.As a maintenance manager, examine and explain the effect of component/system redundancy on the maintenance organization. What factors must be considered when determining redundancy requirements?

In today's globalized business scenario its very important to have maintenance component redundancy. When we are receiving a forecast from customer this is the prime duty of production department to make available the finished goods on time. Now in most of the cases the productions are running 24 hrs.So If any break down of machinery takes place then that loss can not be sustainable .It has cascading effect on the the whole system. The maintenance issues in company like coca cola are very serious because the product is demanded highly from market.

So as Maintenance manager I think redundancy is very important which can help as a shock absorber for system.

Factors must be considered when determining redundancy requirements :

1 ) Demand for the product

2) Criticality of the Operations

3) Investment involved in the component may be machine or Tools or any other components

4) Time available for repairing that machine or any other components

5) Sequential or next operations which are dependent on that specific machine or components.

6) Life of machine or component

7) Level of Automation

2.    What is the purpose of the Maintenance Type Board (MTB) Process? Compare and contrast the MTB process and the Maintenance Review Board Process.

Maintenance Type Board (MTB) Process : MTB process are selfely designed by their application which performs a specific task of a maintenance.

Purpose :

1 ) Board Focus on one activity

2) Designed by considering the specific activity

3) Study the activity in details

The Maintenance Review Board (MRB) process is an acceptable means of compliance for developing a maintenance program / scheduled maintenance.

Difference :

3.    Evaluate task-oriented maintenance and process-oriented maintenance. From a maintenance management perspective, discuss the impact of using task-oriented maintenance processes versus process-oriented maintenance processes.

Answer :

Impact of Task Oriented & Process oriented Maintenance : See in organizations both the maintenance types are important .For specific application Task - Maintenance ,For whole application - Process Maintenance .But the attention that we need to give to process is much more compair to task because of the involvement of whole process. So the policy , strategy for Task & Process Maintenance are different.
