Question
How much of the email that arrives in your inbox comes to you with statements that assert that you have “opted in,” “requested this information” or some similar statement when you know that you have not intentionally done that?If you didn’t ask for these emails, how did they get your email address?
Do you click on the link to have your name removed from the mailing list? Or are you concerned that this will just signal to someone that there is indeed a real person using that email address and it will be sold to others for a higher price now that there is proof of a real person on the other end? How do you feel about all of the spam you receive and the people responsible for it?
Do you see the spam as the unfortunate side that must be endured in order for you to enjoy the benefits the Internet provides? Or is spam a flagrant violation of legal and ethical mores that only exists because there’s money to be made with little chance of getting caught?
Explanation / Answer
I do agree that out of the emails that I receive daily, a considerable number of emails are simply composed of spam or irrelevant mails with which, I have absolute no relation or interest. While, it is indeed true that my action of ‘Unsubscribing’ to such mails may give me a relief from receiving further emails from those unknown strangers, I may be actually exposed to signaling the rest others with the fact that my email is an active one. However, personally, I still do not feel there is any more way out that either blocking those email ids that send us spam mails or by unsubscribing to their mail reception. I am an impatient person. I cannot tolerate such spam mails for a long time, especially, if keep receiving the same on regular basis. One needs to draw a line. I actually do not mind unsubscribing from all possible spam mails that flows into my inbox because I believe that is a hard response to those users that we are simply not interested in encouraging their acts.
Spam is truly an unfortunate side of what internet provides but it is on the hands of the users like us to attempt minimizing the same. I see no better option that the ones mentioned above to deal with the same, spam is further, certainly a violation of legal and ethical moves because our privacy is breached when our emails are shared with many such bogus sites, without our genuine consent.
