Recently target has invested around 7 billion dollars to modernize target supply chain management activities. And the strategy is described by the word 'modernization'.
It plans to remodel Stores which would increase sales by 2%. The chief operating officer had also made a decision to provide customers with free two-day shipping which increased the number of orders and sales. The strategy included that the stores to be converted into hubs and distribution spot for faster delivery from store to the customer, for this purpose the backroom of the stores was the remodeled. The strategy Incorporated flow spot automation and new inventory logic which helped in customising the shipments to the individual Store and reduced out of stock products by 40% by maintaining optimum safety stock. The stores are being used as part of fulfillment network which was proven to be faster than a fulfillment spot. The funds allocated to improve the supply chain activities involved integrating Technology along with the supply chain management. Target is also created new inventory management position within the supply chain team who would only focus on forecasting demand accurately and allocating resources appropriately. This position has improved the supply chain management by maintaining enhance safety stock and faster replenishment of the product. The digitisation of supply chain activity has helped in overcoming operational challenges and maintaining database about customer preferences which would help target to serve the customers in a better way.
