Question
A- Mindful Reading urges you to try different approaches to reading, depending on the kind of text, or your purpose. And it urges you to monitor your own thinking, self-reflectively while you're reading, and make mental notes to yourself (and annotate in the margins of your book) about: what you're confused by, unsure of, skeptical of, upset by, bored by, excited by, have questions about, want to re-read later, think is important, etc. The more you can monitor your own thought processes and make your reading visible to yourself by making annotations, the more you'll have to write about the text later. Write a short reflection about whether or not you did this while reading Just Mercy, what kinds of annotations you made, whether or not you think it's useful, whether you went back to your annotations during the Passage Paper, etc. It's OK to say that you did not annotate, but reflect thoughtfully on why not or why you don't think it's useful etc. Reflect on whether you monitored your own thinking, and in what ways while reading Just Mercy. What (if anything) did you notice about your own mind or your own reading while reading Just Mercy? Be specific
E- What are two reading strategies (besides annotation) that I recommended that can help you have a more meaningful experience while reading?
Explanation / Answer
1.I did not make any annotations but made mental notes that I felt very important to me and the one that I can use in my personal life. While reading the book I subconsciously analysed how there can be different definition for justice and Mercy. I could relate to the journey of lawyer experiencing different facets of his profession. My mind was growing compassionate towards the lawyer and good experience the thought process that was going on in his mind.
2. To have a more meaningful experience while reading it is important to relate yourself to the leading character of the book and involve all your senses while reading the book. You can also relate the experiences of book to your own experience and current situation that is prevailing in the nation. It gives different perspective and paradigm to the mind that helps to reveal the creativity of mind.
