What are your thoughts on egovernance and being a public servant and the social and cultural inequalities according to the summary provided below. Respond in detail if you agree or disagree and why?
I chose the term public servant because I am one. I would like to think I fall under the umbrella of a positive servant because I do see social and cultural inequalities within my organization and that there needs to be a revitalization of processes, and if no one else is going to do it, I will. Just in the basic definition of the term, I am a servant of the people I interact with and I do take that to heart. One way that I encourage citizen participation is by opening up my classroom to various individuals. I am an expert in my respective educational field, but learning is multidimensional and that includes various viewpoints and advice. I am also very involved with various advocacy groups in which citizen participation is highly encouraged to affect change in local government. Included in all of these terms, is transparency. Organizations should not be veiled in a cloak of secrecy, especially when using tax dollars. The only time, there should not be total transparency is when there is risk to an individual or to the country. As a government employee, I know that my information, could be FIOA’ed at any time. There is accountably there, as there should. Finally, I chose e-governance because it is very interesting. I love that all of this government information is available, and it makes intergovernmental communication and partnerships that much more attainable.
Public service is an important topic to study especially for recruitment and retainment purposes. If an organization’s goal is to do public good, a special type of person is needed. Specifically, someone who has a serving based personality or if the goal is to balance a budget someone who will do such, but also do so in a way that does not divide the community. The book argues that a public servant should have a “personal commitment to a public problem and an allegiance to the community” (Stillman, 2010, p.325). Bureaucrats sometimes can be seen as elitists who are self-serving when they should be working in conjunction with their respective communities, as this is what makes a community strong.
Government should be an opportunity for public service, not just private gain, as the decisions that are made will affect many individuals. Specifically, serving in the public interest involved being financially responsible, as well as being informed of various issues with in your community. This includes, but it’s not limited to social issues, social, economic, and cultural considerations and the specific issues related to them as well. Continually, analyzing decisions and the repercussions of them so that they do serve in the public interest is incredibly important.

In the public context, governance is about how to steer or guide society so as to best serve public interests and achieve the common good. By e-Governance, we mean the application of advanced information and communications technology to improve governance. Governments around the world are recognizing the value of e-Government. Properly designed and implemented, e-Government can improve efficiency in the delivery of government services, simplify compliance with government regulations, strengthen citizen participation and trust in government, and yield cost savings for citizens, businesses and the government itself. Not surprisingly, therefore, policymakers and managers are looking to adopt e-Government in countries around the world - ranging from the most developed to the least developed.
Definition of e-Government Is a platform that includes all electronically executed transactions between government agencies and citizens. Despite the citizen centric focus, the definition of e-Government is not limited to a service-based view of offering electronic public services to citizens. It has been observed that e-Government in this information age has also become an inter-organizational phenomenon, and that technological improvements have implied more cooperative initiatives between government departments and organizations in complex, diverse and often divided political systems.
E-Governance has the following benefits;
1. It greatly simplifies the process of information accumulation about their government organizations for citizens and businesses.
2. It empowers people to gather information regarding any department of government and get involved in the process of decision making.
3. E-Governance strengthens the very fabric of democracy by ensuring greater citizen participation at all levels of governance
4. E-Governance leads to automation of services, ensuring that information regarding every work of public welfare is easily available to all citizens, eliminating corruption.
5. This revolutionizes the way governments function, ensuring much more transparency in the functioning, thereby eliminating corruption.
6. Since the information regarding every activity of government is easily available, it would make every government department responsible as they know that every action of theirs is closely monitored.
7. Proper implementation of e-Governance practices make it possible for people to get their
8. work done online thereby sparing themselves of unnecessary hassles of traveling to the respective offices.
9. Successful implementation of e-Governance practices offer better delivery of services to citizens, improved interactions with business and industry, citizen empowerment through access to information, better management, greater convenience, revenue growth, cost reductions etc.
10. Furthermore, introduction of e-Governance brings governments closer to citizens. So much so that today it becomes extremely convenient to get in touch with a government agency. Indeed, citizen service centers are located closer to the citizens now. Such centers may consist of an unattended kiosk in the government agency, a service kiosk located close to the client, or the use of a personal computer in the home or office.
11. E-Governance practices help business access information that might be important for them at a click.
12. Less corruption and more responsible government servants will lead to application of hard earned tax payer’s money for development of society and country instead of committing of scams to divert that money for self purpose of the bureaucrats.
