WHS policies and procedures

Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) is a part of the strategy to eliminate and prevent occupational injury and illnesses.
Main components should include:

Demonstration of safe housekeeping practices

demonstration of safe practices give importance to the concern for the health and safety of employees and most importantly provide management's commitment to translating that concern into practical action.

Some housekeeping practices include but not limited to: Maintenance, Dust and Dirt Removal, Employee Facilities, Surfaces, Maintain Light Fixtures, Spill Control, Tools and Equipment and Waste Disposal.

Procedure to raise issues and report WHS issues

There can be multiple steps in the procedure according to the organization structure. We are considering four levels for the explanation. The issue can be resolved at any stage.

First: Health and safety issue identified. Staff member tries to resolve the issue.

Second: Staff member raises the issue with his/her supervisor/manager, who may seek assistance/advice from the WHS Unit.

Third: Staff member raises the issue with his/her workgroup Health & Safety Representative, who then discusses it with the supervisor/manager

Fourth: Health & Safety Representative raises the issue with a senior manager (Head of Unit/Division). The senior manager may consult the WHS Unit for advice/assistance.

Encourage staff members to contribute and support towards consultative activities.

The highly effective policy requires consultation. Members who are part of the workforce can contribute to providing insights which may be not visible to the management team. Therefore elected health and safety representatives for health and safety, management and employees can all contribute to ensuring effective health and safety policy
