The Employment Interview
Organizations use different techniques for gathering information that reflects an individual's education and experience, skills and abilities, and personal characteristics. Most organizations rely on a comprehensive system of multiple selection techniques to ensure that they gather all the relevant data and that they assess this data rigorously, objectively, and without discrimination. The most widely used selection technique is the employment interview. Interviews are face-to-face conversations between prospective job applicants and representatives of the organization.
Imagine that you are on the interview team responsible for hiring an HR Assistant. You will work closely with the HR Assistant. For this assignment you will read the job advertisement included below and develop three questions that you will ask during the interview, and what you hope to learn about the candidate from the question.
Please note federal and state laws prohibit prospective employers from asking certain questions that are not related to the job they are hiring for. Questions should be job-related and not used to find out personal information. Employers should not ask about an applicant's race,gender, religion, marital status, age, disabilities, ethnic background, country of origin, sexual preferences or age unless it is job related.

Job Purpose
Provides administrative support to the Human Resources Manager and it business partners on all human resource related matters within the scope of the position.
Key Result Areas
Responsible for the accuracy of human resource records including:
Personnel files
Data bases
Benefits records
Performance Management records
Disciplinary records
Personnel change forms
Provide customer service functions as it relates to payroll/timekeeping questions, benefits questions, and benefits enrollment questions,.
The Human Resources Assistant will follow Personnel Policies, Purchasing Policies and Safety and Security Guidelines and report to the appropriate management staff any known violations.
Maintain confidentiality of all files and information shared as confidential unless doing so would be a violation of any applicable law or regulation.
Key Responsibilities & Job Content
Employee Assistance
Provide or arrange employee assistance to all direct and indirect employees up to but not including management team level as requested.
Recruitment
Assist Human Resources Manager with the hiring of direct employees.
Source and identify candidates for employment consideration as requested.
Schedule interviews with department heads and attend as requested.
Administer new employee orientation for direct employees.
Perform reference checks and background checks for direct employees.
Develop job postings as requested.
Benefits Administration
Assist Human Resources Manager in benefits administration as required up to management team level.
Enroll and maintain benefits for employees.
Coordinate with benefits broker/carrier and assist with employee claims administration.
Employee relations
Assist HR Manager in setting up employee relations meetings.
Maintains and coordinates employee recognition and activities programs.
Assists with the various employee discount coupons by contacting companies for coupons as directed by HR Manager.
Conducts new hire orientation.
Assist with creating, publishing and distributing company/employee related news letters.
Policies and Procedures
Assist with the creation, updating and distribution of company human resources policies and procedures as required.
Legislative Compliance
Increase knowledge of current relevant employment legislation.
Verifies I-9 documentation, E-Verify, and maintains books current.
Administrative
Provide administrative services to the Human Resources department as required.
Assist in maintaining personnel files.
Track employee vacation balances for salaried employees.
Track and record attendance for Salaried employees and report to HR Manager
Maintain library of employment reference materials.
Performs payroll/benefit-related reconciliations.
Conducts audits of various payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommends any corrective action.
Updates HR spreadsheet with employee change requests and processes paperwork.
Assists with processing of terminations.
Assists with the preparation of the performance review forms.
Makes photocopies, faxes documents and performs other clerical functions.
Files papers and documents into appropriate employee files.
Prepares new employee files.
Other Duties as Required
Physical Work Environment/Conditions
Must be able to work in high temperatures, in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit for up to two hours.
Plant environment will be dusty with airborne wool particles.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced high volume production facility.
Some lifting, bending, stooping, walking up/down stairs.
Job Requirements
Two years relevant experience working in a human resources department
Experience with benefits administration.
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Understanding of employment regulations and laws.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent computers skills –MS Office.
Must be well organized and able to prioritize and multi task
