Two physician-researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health. Byrd and Clayton paint a complex and disturbing picture of a healthcare system that itself perpetuates racism in health care in three distinct ways: by not destroying the myth that minority Americans should be expected to experience poorer health relative to Caucasians; by organizing itself as a private, for-profit system that marginalizes the indigent and minorities; and by refusing to acknowledge the historical and ongoing problem of racial exclusion in health care.
Discuss whether you believe that this is still the case in 21st century America. If so, why does this practice still persist? Identify and discuss 2 ways we can change our system to be inclusive of all citizens regardless of race, gender, culture, and other identifying factors.
This is for a healthcare management class.
Explanation / Answer
I strongly criticise the move of Byrd and Clayton, because 21st century America is not discriminating people on the basis of race, gender, culture and ethinicity in any sphere. We have seen the Civil Right Movement led by Martin Luther King and subsequent enactement of Civil Right Act of 1964.Such discrimination is not allowed and the person who is indulge in such racial discimination directly or indirectly shoule be put behind the bar.
