Question
Think of a change that you have experienced, in either your work or personal life. We would like to ask you to write a story about that experience. Here is a definition of a story EXERCISE 1.1 Writing Your Own Story of Change to help you: A story expresses how and why life changes. It begins with a situation in which life is relatively in balance: You come to work day after day, week after week, and every.- thing's fine. You expect it will go on that way. But then there's an event-in screen- writing, we call it the "inciting incident" -that throws life out of balance. You get a new job, or the boss dies of a heart attack, or a big customer threatens to leave. The story goes on to describe how, in an effort to restore balance, the protagonist's sub- jective expectations crash into an uncooperative objective reality. A good storyteller describes what it's like to deal with these opposing forces, calling on the protagonist to dig deeper, work with scarce resources, make difficult decisions, take action despite LO 1.1 risks, and ultimately discover the truth. (McKee, 2003, p. 52) Plan A Write down your experience of change in about one page, and then answer these questions: What made this experience a "story"? What lessons for managing change can you take from your story? Compare these with the lessons from the Beth Israel, Sears, and J. C. Penney stories. Which are the same? From your experience, what new lessons have you added, particularly for future changes in which you might be involved? In small groups, share your lessons with colleagues. Which lessons are similar, and what are the differences among you? What three main conclusions can you take from these stories about managing change?Explanation / Answer
It is not a story, it is my life experience. I gifted with a baby in the last year, till the time i am a free bird. Whatever I wanted to do, i make it possible in those times (before my baby). But now, what ever my plan is depending on my baby's actions. Suppose i planed to complete a work by this night, but unfortunately if my baby is not felt well, I do not leave her alone and i spend time with her. Not only one activity, everthing, personally and professionally my actions are confined.
2. I can say my life as before marriage, after marriage and after my baby. In the first stage I am alone, planned what ever i wish to do and completed it succesfully. Here i spend total time to my career and professional way only.
In the second stage, some of the time i spent with my partner, and my expansion is limited. Here I managed things personally and professionally in the same way and with same weight.
But after my baby, my actions are completely confined with my family only. My first preference given to family here. I have given more priority to my family now and little priority to work and prefessional works.
*One must remember that, take care of your family and dependents is your obligations and responsibility also. Ever think it as a burden or obstacle to your career. Especailly in the initial days of your marriage, and initial years of your kids born, your partner and your family needs you. They need your support in these times. If you wish have joy years together, without any breaks, it only possible with your child. So, one should invite it and ready to accept the change.
When we share these with others, most of the people says the same reasons, but every one is expressed in a different way. some may say that they enjoys alot the new responsibility, some may say that it is a burden, some may say that it is a pain and so on. But one thing is clear, it is your life, your family and your career. How you made it or how you plan it, is upto you.
