Question

.Consider a normal individual who quickly goes from a supine posture to an erect one. Predict the changes (increase/decrease/no change) that will occur in the following cardiovascular parameters. Choose 2 (two) and give a complete reason for your answer. Citations are not required, but may be instrumental for making your case with your answer. (4 points, 2 point for each. Be complete in your explanation)

a.     Stroke Volume (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        b. Heart Rate (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        c. Cardiac Output (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        d. Total Peripheral Resistance (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        e. Pressure at the root (beginning) of the aorta (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        f. Arterial pressure in foot (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        g. Capillary pressure in foot (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

        h. Arterial pressure in cerebral blood vessels (increase/decrease/no change) - Why?

Explanation / Answer

supine posture ; the position of the body with face up .

cardiac output = heart rate * stroke volume , incerase in heart rate = decrease in stoke volume , when person who excersie , the stroke volume decrases so the heart rate of the person increase . the body works agnaist the gravity , so the our circulatory system is adapted to stand agniast the gravitational force , when we are in supine posiiton the heart is at the same level of the graviation force , so the blood fllowing in the blood vessels and blood filling in the heart is same as that of gravity , hence there will be no significant change in the stroke volume and heart rate or caridac out put . when we change from the supine to upright position there will be significant changes in the body as in normal we feel dizziness . when we change our position from supine to upright position we are standing agnaist gravity .
