The websites like okcupid, fritbit were also affected. The problem was initially discovered in february 17 and the bug was fixed within hours. However the data leakage had already started in the early September. The data which was leaked was deposited on sites of cloudfare. This was not initially available on the pages.
The internal cryptography of cloudfare makes it accessible with the help of search. The company worked effectively with search engines even before the announcement was made for removing the leaked data from the caches. It became difficult to weaponize the leaks efficiently. The reputation of the company was affected.
It would be useful to implement effective policies and procedures to fix the issue and make a formal announcement. The organization should work on having an effective breach plan for taking appropriate actions on time.
