In 2010, the US Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Since its passage, the act has withstood challenges to its constitutionality, and the majority of the law remains intact. The law requires "large employers" to offer "affordable" and "adequate" insurance coverage to their "full-time employees" as defined by the act, or, under the "play-or-pay" provisions, to pay a penalty.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act enacted in 2010 by the then president of the United States Barrack Obama generally focus on protection of various rights of the healthcare system, it is said that after 1965 it is the most significant act that has came into existence. The law came with a basket of allowances and provided various additional provisions to the patients seeking healthcare. The share of population who were uninsured are now insured largely due to the Affordable Care Act and the government is quite serious about the fact.
The Affordable Care Act has affected various employers differently and the large employers have been benefitted in this context. If an employer is having more than 50 full time employees then the provisions are quite a lot, the employer has to prove that the employer is a large employer and there are various parameters through which that can be judged. The individual insurance market was affected quite a lot because the illegal immigrants were pointed out and they were not provided any subsidy of the policy. There was Penalty that was being collected from citizens and for citizens having insurance coverage around 8% of the household income was exempted from the penalty.
Private insurance plans came into existence and many small and medium organizations preferred to buy private insurance and even individuals were not an exception in this context. There was amendment done in the tax structure and the Medicare taxes and excise taxes were re structured. The salary of any single individual exceeding $200000 annually will have to pay an additional tax of around 0.9% and the amount varies when it is a married couple or when it is an individual. There are also excise taxes that are being re structured in this context and the amount of $11.3 billion was increased to $16.3 billion and in addition there are other various components that were added. it has been observed and noticed that healthcare is a very sensitive and even expensive aspect in the United states and the law forwarded by Barrack Obama aims at making the cost and affect convenient because the citizens already suffer a lot and in order to make the situation better the law needs tro be implemented throughout the country. In December 2016 there are around 32 states who have accepted the law and 19 states who are yet to the law has to be accepted by all so that there is very less issues throughout.
