Explanation / Answer
The U.S department of labor's occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) has cited the Thorpe speciality services corporation operating as Thorpe plant services inc. and steel dust recycling. the employees were working in confined space in hazard situations. one employee was hospitalised after falling to 30 foot in steel dust. the OSHA cited Thorpe the maximum allowable penalty for exposing employees to fall hazards.
The company failed in conducting atmospheric monitoring before allowing employees to enter confined space and also prior permission to enter into the confined space. the violation could have been prevented if co,pany ensures emergency services when employees were entered the confined space and failed to implement their permit space entry programme.
Under the occupational safety and health Act, 1970, all the employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces to their employees. also responsible to enforce standards, provide training and assistance when employees are working in unhealthy conditions. employees should be provided with sufficient safety equipments those are working in hazard situations so that it will not happen in future or will minimise the violation.
