Fast food outlets currently offer products on their menu that are healthier alternatives. Demand is the key. How do you encourage consumers to choose the healthier alternatives? Might the city reduce consumer demand by imposing a calorie consumption tax on less healthy alternatives – then continue to raise the tax until an ideal level of consumption is reached that is consistent with the goals of the government? People crave for fast-food because of its taste rather than health consciousness. It is important to consider the demand and offer healthier food to consumer. But, it doesn't mean to raise tax on less healthier items, because it may negatively impact the fast food outlets and restaurants. If the companies try to reduce the demand for tasty but less healthy food people may walk off and try to search other options, if all the restaurant do this due to government regulations, consumption patterns will change and there will be lot more chance that it will affect adversely to all the companies. Rather than opting for tax raise, companies must make their menus attractive, with offers on healthier food items, bring customisation in preparation of food of the customer's choice giving it a healthier touch.
These days, people are becoming more health conscious, if they are made aware of the healthier offering, through advertising, and promotions, creating awareness, and bringing changes in design and interior of the outlets, creating screen banners, and displaying healthy items with customisation value, attracts largest customers and increase the profitability with healthier consumption.
Cigarette and food is totally a different thing, cigarette consumption needs to be reduced, infact eradicated, but, when considering food items same regulations Cannot be implied. It is not right to regulate what companies sell unless it is against human consumption and badly affects health of the public.
