135) Fasciotomy is a surgical treatmenr for compartment syndrome.
Fasciotomy is the method by which we cut the fascia to decrease the pressure or tension in the inner muscles.
A fascia is the membrane that covers the inner structure constituting muscles ,nerves ,arteries, veins, others.
This fasciotomy is mainly done in limbs of upper and lower mainly lower limb.
The compartment syndrome is the painfull condition where the muscles underlying the fascia builds pressure and it decrease blood flow of arteries which provide nourishment or compression of nerves which may cause parasthesia.
Thus to decrease this pressure within and make flow of blood normal also for relieving this prathesic conditions a slit through the fascia is made and pressure within is decreased.
Now there are two types of compartment syndrome 1)acute 2)chronic.
Acute is more of medical emergency condition. It may be due to any fracture in limbs, bruished muscle, accidents affecting arms or legs.
Chronic occurs in athlets or body builders doing exercise it occurs but when this exercise discontinues it relieves.
Thus as a treatment of compartment syndrome , Fasciotomy is done.
Complications like amputations may occur.
