Describe a time when a change initiative at your company (or a previous one, or one you have researched) failed. Describe ways that could have been used to overcome this resistance to change and choose and discuss an approach that could be used to managing this organizational change such as Lewin's Three Step Model, Kotter's eight-step plan, action research or organizational development. Also, discuss how the organization can embrace change by creating a culture of change by using one of three approaches: managing paradox, stimulating an innovative culture and creating a learning organization.

Explanation / Answer

there are many live examples come across which the change practices of the organization were failed. I am working for an university, where the core business is serving education to the students. In the last semester, our college management has taken a decision regarding working timings of the university. Earlier, the college working hours are morning 10 to Evening 4. These were extended to morning 9 to evening 5.30. The reason behind this is, the additional time may help the faculty to cover more areas in the syllabus as well as out off the syllabus content also.

But it is completely reversed, many of the students were not attending the classes regularly. The immideate reaction from the students is, they were not regular to the classess, and they were not interested to listen to the classess too.

From the teaching feternity point of view, the extended working hours made them to take extra classess, which becomes more burden to them. The class hours were extended from 1 hour to 1.5 hours, resulted in more stress to the faculty. Holding the student concentration for about 90 minitues, is more difficult to them. when the time been increased, the quality in teaching and class room delivery becomes less. Faculty are feeling the stress, and of course it is impacted on their personal lives too. Teaching is the profession, where the teacher must have positive and open minded, extract live examples from the society and same must expain to the students. But, unfortunately due to the extended hours, faculty lost the free time to gether live examples.

It show a big impact on the admissions of next semester. earlier, the college have 100% admissions in all the courses. But now, for this semester, we have only 30% admissions only. And the faculty turnover ratio has been tripled recently. many of the new people coming into the campus and they are leaving sooner.

By considering all these, I can say that, this change is a failure and negative change on the organization and its performance.
