Well I would not use just one way, rather I would use a mix of things to put up my opinion:

- firstly I will check every link, and check what are the exact points which are not correct or needs a bit of alteration.

- then I would check the hypothesis already mentioned, negate once I feel are not working well and then see if I could come up with an other alternative.

- with my findings I will approach my team, and try to get in a healthy debate to validate the best possible solution, this would help in 2 ways - one is to let my peers know in a subtle way that there some problem with the project, and second the involvement of the peers in the discussion will be welcoming their thoughts and convincing them about the issue

Once all of us come on the same page, it will be easier for us to communicate it out VP.
