Explanation / Answer
Fostering innovation and creativity is nowadays is of great priority in almost every industry in this cut throat competition. Organizations are now being very supportive and receptive of bringing the culture of innovation and creativity in their environment. However to develop the culture which promotes innovation and drives creativity takes a great deal of insight and efforts not only by top managemnet but at all level. Still the change to bring the culture in starts from the upper level with utmost zeal and confidence in lower level employees.
The following are the three factors or tools that can be used by top managers to encourage the individuals to have creative mind and think innovatively for work practices -
1) Delegation of work : Majorly and importantly the delegating of duties essentially with the authoriity by superiors to the subordinates makes the individual use their own insght resulting into new ideas, creatiivity leading to innnovative thinking. When to level managers make their junios authorized and responsible for the work which is more of peopleor situation or contingency oriented then the subordinates willingly or unwillingly/under pressure starts thining their own. For example if the leader of recruting team allows the members of the team to decide for the new slecetion criteria and assessment techniques of new batch of potential rceruits then the members will envitably try to think diffrenetly than previous to decide new criterias and slecetion methods matching with the external and internal environment that may lead to creation of new assessment technique or tool for the organzation.
2) Participation in decision making - When seniors allow juniosr to participate in meetings of discussion which they earleir were not used to engage, then the suboridnates may comp up with new ideas and may provide better or different outlook on various perspectives through creative thinking in decision making.
3) Challenging the work - Enriching the tasks/work that indivdiuals do will also let them think creatively. ENriching involves changing the current task with more responsibility and authority of same nature of previous task but of a little different nature that will require the employee to excercise different set of skills to execute. Excercising different set of skills will make the individuals to have better use of minds to cater the challanged task.
