For this assignment, you will lay the groundwork for negotiating with someone you know in an imagined scenario. Begin by selecting someone you know and with whom you have an ongoing relationship (e.g., coworker, supervisor, friend). Decide the topic/issue about which you both will be negotiating (e.g., salary, finances, responsibilities). Your well-written paper should contain the following elements: Start with 1-2 sentences identifying the person with whom you’ll be negotiating and the topic/issue of the negotiation. Define your goal or desired outcome for this negotiation. List what you know about the other party’s goals or interests concerning the negotiation. Also, list the questions you need to ask to improve your understanding of the other party’s goals and interests. Describe any additional information that’s needed for this negotiation (e.g., if the negotiation is about salary, you may need research on average salaries in your field; if the negotiation is about responsibilities, you may need documentation on how your time is currently spent). Discuss any potential issues you believe might arise in this negotiation as a result of your relationship with the other party. Propose at least two strategies you will employ in the negotiation to help maintain your relationship with this person.

I work at a religious trust that organises religious events for the believers in this small town. The population of the town is a mix of different faiths. They have lived peacefuly for centuries but some recent events have created rift between two communities, each of which wants its nose ahead of the other.This year, two main festivals of these two communities are falling on the same date. People from both faiths want to celebrate their festivities in th first half of the day, considered as the most auspicious one. The festivities can not coincide at one place as there is fair chance of unpleasant events here. The negotiation is with head of other faith who is adamant on taking out the procession right in the morning.
The questions to be asked to the other party is that if the venue or the timings of the event can be adjusted to let the other party also celebrate their event, the time taken for their procession to complete and the ways in which both parties can conduct their respective events.
I expect the negotiation to be simple, where two parties either deciding to choose separate venues or time for the event. We have had a warm relationship till now and expect that both parties show bit of flexibility to adjust to the concern of the other party. The first strategy is to listen to the logic of the other person and suggesting mutually agreeable solution to him /her. The other is to introspect our own degree of flexibility in accomodating the other party's needs if they are genuine.
Such coincidence of events is rare. The objective should be to act in such a way so as to add more happiness to the other faith's festivities and create a bonhomie for time to come.
