There was a problem with waste disposal in my organization. Employees were discharging the waste in the open causing serious health hazards to the public. The management looked into this problem and arranged a meeting with the employees. First, an awareness program was conducted on the proper waste disposal by corporation authorities. This was followed by setting standards in the organization. The employees were trained to discharge waste in the proper manner following the standards. The waste was disposed of in the proper manner and the problem was solved.
After reading the PLUS and Rudell’s models of solving ethical problems, I have a different approach to suggest if I were a leader. I would have conveyed the importance of waste disposal in the first place to the employees. I get ideas and opinions from employees to solve the problem. This will give me a list of alternatives like developing a waste disposal policy, seeking the help of a corporation, using a private waste disposal agency, building a waste recycling plant and many other ideas. I will select the best alternative from the list and implement it in the company. In this case, my approach will be to first develop a waste disposal policy and seek the help of the corporation or a private agency in gathering the waste daily at the premises. This solves the problem in the short term. In the future, I will initiate steps to build a waste recycling plant and generate power from the waste. This will benefit the employees, organization, local community and the society at large. I will feel satisfied after implementing the waste recycling plant.
