ACM 1.8- Honor confidentiality. The principle of honesty extends to issues of confidentiality of information whenever one has made an explicit promise to honor confidentiality or, implicitly, when private information not directly related to the performance of one’s duties becomes available. The ethical concern is to respect all obligations of confidentiality to employers, clients, and users unless discharged from such obligations by requirements of the law or other principles of this Code

Explanation / Answer

SE 2.05: Consider the scenario when an employee of any organization is given training on the company products including functional and non-functional characteristics of the product. There may be some documents or study material shared with the employee related to the product which might contain highly confidential information. In such cases employee should not share, disclose these documents to anyone inside or outside organization. Insiders also sometimes misuse the documents, thus employee should take permission on need basis before sharing any information he has gained during the training.

ACM 1.8: Consider that an employee has conveyed some personal information to his/her manager in order to make necessary arrangements in his/her work and duties. He requests manager not to share this info to anyone in the team or outside. In this case manager should respect employee’s privacy, take his request into consideration and must not disclose this information to anyone in the organization and should keep his promise made to the employee.
