1) As a system analyst, you are required to collect requirements from customers. Which is the most suitable requirement collection technique and why?
Explanation / Answer
Answer)
Requirements analysis and requirements gathering is an important step in every process. Requirements analysis is very important towards the project functioning and gathering an understanding of the to-be system and its functions. Customer requirements are very important and Requirements analysis is the base of a Software development life cycle. Many projects do fail even after developing systems solely because of their poor or not-so-good Requirements analysis and technique. In the above scenario, the company needs the TAIS (Travel Agency Information Systems) tool which is a kind of ERP- to manage the employees in the company. There is an old system which is existing and a new system has to be developed to replace this system.
As a system analyst, we will start to collect requirements from customers using the technique of Document Analysis where existing documents of the present system should be there to help to identify the requirements of the new system primarily. As the system is migrating from old to new, thus documentation analysis should be a suitable process, as it is important to understand what were the requirements for which the present system was developed. We may then later question the validity and importance of the requirements and then proceed and start towards developing our set of new requirements.
Since, the system already exists in an old fashioned way, thus we may then use Use Case Analysis to see from the user's perspective and filter out important requirements and also changes needed in the old requirements. Use cases will be easy for the user to understand and relate. From the use cases thus formed, we will be able to get our final set of user requirements. Thus, this will be the suitable technique to collect requirements from customers.
