Question
Go to https://www.md5hashgenerator.com/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and generate an MD5 hash of 3 different passwords 1) simple using only letters or numbers, 2) advanced using numbers and letter, 3) complex using a passphrase with letters, numbers special characters, and capital letters. Then go to https://crackstation.net/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and paste each of the hashes into the program.
I got the first 1 and 2 working. But not the 3rd. Can anyone explain to me why is that?
Explanation / Answer
Hashing is very secure method to verify data.
The program that gets you back your original password uses brute force and previous knowledge to get the string.
Like if u hash 'a' and get 1
It will try hash of all characters and if some hash match your hash it will give you the character.
But think of a scenario where it never encountered your string previously nor it can brute force upto that extent.
It will give you error or no answer.
That's the lesson of the whole excercise i guess to reveal the importance of password that are complex and cant be reverse hashed to secure our accounts.
