Question

I am part of the IT team and the Project manager asked me to write 5 quality standards or requirements that they need to be implemented in the website that we are designing. This website will help to collect funds for an orphanage that it is in Haiti.

a. Quality Standards/Requirements: Develop a list of at least five quality standards or requirements. Provide a brief description of each requirement

b. Measuring Progress: Based on the list you created for 5b, determine how you will measure progress on meeting the requirements.

Explanation / Answer

Five quality standards or requirements from the website intended to collect funds for an orphanage in Haiti:

1. Strategy alignment: the website should be backed by strategy, i.e. it should be capable of achieving what the company wants to achieve, i.e. encourage the visitor to invest in the cause of the orphanage. So, the website should give the visitors a clear sense of who the company is, what are our intentions with their donations, when they arrive on the website.

To measure the progress of on meeting the above requirements, I would like to analyze if the website mentions:

What is the category of our business i.e. is it obvious from the webpage that we are demanding donations for an orphanage in Haiti?
Is the design accomplishing the purpose of the website?
Who is our target audience, and does the website design take them into consideration?
What do I want the visitors to do, and does the design of the website encourage them for that?

2. Usability: this quality requirement will define the practical considerations of the website, like its speed, security, user-friendliness, sitemaps, etc.

To measure the progress of on meeting the above requirements, I would like to analyze the website for:

How long does the website take to load?
Is it easy to find information on the home page?
Is there a search option/button for the visitors looking for something specific?
Do all the links in the website work properly?
Does the website work consistently across all the major browsers?
Does the website work properly on mobile browsers?
For the section where the visitor’s personal details or money is asked for, is the customer information secure? Is the same clearly communicated to the user?

3. Style: the website design should aesthetically create a positive impression on the visitor’s mind, should be clean, and should complement our intention of demanding donations for an orphanage.

To measure the progress of on meeting the above requirements, I would like to analyze the website for:

Does the website design/style is aligned to the company’s band in the terms of the feel, colors, graphics, etc.?
Is the website design consistent across all its pages?
Is the website design suitable for the target audience?
What is the ultimate feel of the website; is it messy or orderly, or crowded or sparse, formal or casual, etc.?
Are the images and other decorative elements used to aesthetically improve the website, aligned of conflict with the message we want to communicate?

4. Content: the content on the website should be both readable and useful. The content should matter to the reader, and should be aligned to our goal.

To measure the progress of on meeting the above requirements, I would like to analyze the website for:

Are the fonts and backgrounds chosen for the website make the content easily readable?
Is the contrast between the font and the background color enough to be easily readable?
I the text size chosen big enough?
Is the content on the website relevant to the reader and to the cause?
Is the content concise?
Is the content easy to find on the website?

5. Search Optimization: the website should be easily searchable, i.e. search engines and social networking should be able to take the users to the website.

To measure the progress of on meeting the above requirements, I would like to analyze the website for:

Are all the images and graphics used on the website optimized with ALT tags?
Is the website coding efficient, i.e. are there any extra codes or lines that can be eliminated?
Are the relevant keywords used in the title tags headings, and Meta descriptions?
Does the site have a readable sitemap?
