Trying to save the day and motor, Jim dives off the back end of the boat with a Vel. of 2.0 ft/s, relative to the boat. To save Jim, Max jumps off the front with a velocity of 3.0 ft/s relative to the boat. Max and Jim weigh 250 and 150 lbs resp.

A.) If the weight of the boat is 400 lb. find the final vel. of the boat after they have both dived off.

first jim jumps off

(400+250+150)*-1 = (400+250)*v + 150*(-1+2)
v=-1.4615 ft/s

now max jumps off

(400 + 250)*-1.4615 = 400*v + 250*(-1.461-3)

v = 0.41319 ft/s
