Question
Read: According to our textbook, surveys can gather information to assess consumer knowledge and awareness of products, brands or issues. They can measure consumers feelings, attitudes and behaviors. To gain insight into my target market and the demand for my product concept I would use interviewers as well as a survey through the mail, email, internet and possibly even text messaging. The reasoning being why a face to face interviewer would be beneficial is the interviewer would be able to gauge the respondent’s response not only by their response but also by their body language (observation). The interviewer would be able to ask questions geared to finding out what the target market’s interest is in the new product and what they would specifically be looking for in a headband that can hold ear buds. It would also provide an opportunity for the respondents to ask questions regarding the product. Email, mail, text messaging and internet survey would allow the researcher to reach a bigger geographic area of my target market. With the absence of the interviewer respondents might be more apt to give more honest responses. All the above methods have both advantages and disadvantages. Observation is another method to gain insight into my target market. I think the only method I would use here would be direct observation. I would have a researcher observe people working out/running and see what they are wearing and if/how they are listening to their music as they work out. This would allow me to determine if my product will be beneficial to athletes. The temperature would need to be taken into consideration for the observation because my product is geared toward the colder temperatures. To promote my product, I will apply the four P’s of marketing. I already have my product, so I would need information from my consumers to effectively promote my product. I would hope that from my surveys, I would be able to determine what my customers want and if there are any features I missed out on. I would need to come up with a name for my product and decide on a color(s) and determine how it differentiates from my competitors. My product needs to have value to the consumers for them to purchase it. If it is priced too low, then consumers might think it’s not a superior product but priced too high and it might not sell. My product will be sold at Nike, but store placement will be important. My product will also be sold online, and I think pairing it up with other suggestions could possibly promote it more effectively.
