Question

PLEASEEE HELP!!! :(

I need to calculate electric field strenght with the given:

I calculated v=463 m/s

At Walnut Grove, California, there are several very tall (600 meter) antennae. At this location, the earth's magnetic field is just about 50 ?T in strength. We wish to calculate the voltage generated in this wire due to the rotation of the earth through its own magnetic field.

Note: We can assume that the motion of Walnut Grove due to the earth's rotation is due east. To make our calculation simpler, lets assume that the field points due north (i.e. we shall ignore the "magnetic deviation) however it does dive steeply into the ground with a magnetic dip of ?=60?)

By moving through a magentic field, an equivalent "electric field" is generated:  E? =v?

Explanation / Answer

a. volatge Vh = V B d

Vh = 463* 600* 50*10^-6

Vh = 13.79 volts

b. E= VB sin theta

E = 463* 50*10^-6 sin 30

E = 1.15*10^-2 N/C
