Question
Experts say that organisations are becoming increasingly decentralised, with authority, decision-making responsibility, and accountability being pushed further down into the organisation. How will this trend affect what will be asked of you as a new manager? Some academicians and some industry practitioners have suggested that structure should be designed to fit strategy. Some theorists argue that strategy should be designed to fit the organisation’s structure. With which theory do you agree? Explain your answer in details.
Explanation / Answer
Answer.
As a new manager, I do agree that organisations are becoming increasingly decentralised, it involves providing authority to the employees, making them responsible, giving opportunity to make certain decisions, and accountable for their duties and tasks. Which is infact a really good thing for the firm, because a rigid and strict structure will not work effectively and often make the members and employees feel controlled with no room for creativity and innovation. As a manager this trend will affect me and my working style to be more flexible, involve subordinates and employees in decision making, lead with compassion and facilitate them with all the requisite and keep the team spirit high, morale and motivation enhanced. As a new manager, it will be difficult to manage everything and human resources, but with proper planning and with the support of every employee members things will be made easier.
It depends on the organization's structure and it's strategies whether to change the structure because your strategies not getting fit, or to change strategies as per the structure. Strategies are affected by intern and external environmental factors, they are framed by assessing these environments, and upon them, implementation is done in the entire organisation or part of the organisation's department, or areas. In some cases, if organisation decides to change its structure, say from hierarchical to a flat, then the strategies related to the organisation needs to be changed in a way which will keep the organisation competitive and successful for a very longer period of time.
