Question

You are a founder of a new startup company, and plan to offer products and services to consumers (B2C). You are evaluating types of computing systems you could purchase and use with the following characteristics:

1) Scalable system that can connect over 100 different devices simultaneously

2) Fast system that can be used by 500 employees eventually directly connected, or through other devices that are connected.

Discuss the type(s) of computers that you could use, and why you think your selection would best choice for your startup company.

Be sure to support your statements with logic and argument.

Explanation / Answer

If you have any problems, let me know in the comments and i will try to solve them.

For 100 different simultaneous connections both desktop PC and mainframe systems can be used but for a startup a PC is a better solution because mainframe computers are used to store and analyze a large amount of data because of their large storage capabilities and processing power but for customer interaction at a smaller scale a workstation or a desktop pc setup can also be created. This setup can be smaller i scale initially but is modular in the sense that it’ll provide ample support for upgradation later and can, in some cases be used in place of a mainframe. Because setting up a mainframe is a costly implementation, especially for a beginning startup, where investments aren’t as high and expectations with the returns are.

But where 500 simultaneous connections are required, a mainframe computer is the only viable option. It needs a lot of processing power that mainframe computers provide and store to keep all the data in. With the increase in the size of the data, better and faster mainframe computers suit the task better, at the same cost of implementation, a mainframe performs better than a a pc especially in an organization with a large size that seeks to further develop their prospects and grow each and every day. The power justifies the cost here. Desktop PC’s can handle the task but not as efficiently as a mainframe computer can do.

Hope this helps...
