What are some common power point mistakes? How can they be avoided?

Some common Power Point mistakes are that people tend to put every word they will say in their presentation on each slide. This causes the slides to look crowded, boring, and wordy. Once the audience sees a slide full of words then tend to lose focus on the topic. Also, many of us do not utilize spell check and leave the errors on the slide when presenting. Other common mistakes are the use of too many bullet points, use of bad color schemes that could also lose the audience, adding excessive amounts of graphs and charts, and motion added on the slides. The choice of font can also be a common mistake most make when creating a Power Point. To avoid some of these mistakes just make sure the information is clear. Instead of adding a huge amount of information on one slide, maybe put it in the notes section so those that want to go back and review what was talked about have a reference. You can also chose a more subtle color scheme or font. Adding graphs or charts is always helpful but do not add a graph for every bullet being presented.

What can you do to be sure that your Power Point presentation is well received?

To ensure the presentation is received just beware of the common mistakes. Included key information and make the information clear and concise but also short, sweet and to the point. If information needs to go in depth instead of adding slides include the data in the notes section.

What tips can you share with the class to ensure a successful presentation?

A few tips to share would be to not over think and add unnecessary information. If what you are providing is something definite the audience needs to know leave it out.

Explanation / Answer

I will completely agree with the fact that slides in power point needs to be very much concise and less with words, instead the presenter should explain the concept that is mentioned in the slide and there should be some inputs that will help the presenter. Personally I believe that the slides need to be very much attention and interesting yet simple by using simple fonts and colors. Spelling mistake and such errors are very much should not be present because that would look very bad and impact the presentation. The objective would be to make the audience feel connected and interested and involved. Technical jargons and clear expression will be an added advantage and that is what the audience would be interested in.
