Question 2 Describe, in your own words, four things that can be done to overcome those resistances.

Question 3 What are the five key activities of the IDEAL process improvement model from the Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute and the key activity/deliverable of each?

Question 4 From COBIT 5.0, Process BAI05.02 How would you form an implementation team? (That is, in your own words, summarize the activities.)

Explanation / Answer

The four most common reasons people resist change:

1. Excess Uncertainty: You don’t know how things are going to be after the change it implemented. It’s quite possible situations become worse than the present.

2. Everything seems different: People are not ready for the new change, they get habitual and routine up with the environment they are in, and just moving to a new environment is difficult and uncomfortable for them.

3. Concerns about competence: people may be experts in their current technology but moving to a new version or a different technology will bring one and all on same scale. Hence, competition increases.

4. More Work: With change comes more work, modifying the past work as per new methodology and lot of new work with new methods.

Four things that can be done to overcome those resistances:

1. People should be assured on the new process, with clear and simple steps and timetables.

2. Avoid change just for the sake of change. Make things more familiar and focus on all the important things.

3. Extra trainings, seminars and sessions should be conducted to make people familiar of the new processes. This will help to make transition easy. Focus on making people understand.

4. For more work recognize and reward people for extra efforts they are putting. People should be motivated to put their extra to get extra.
