Outline the Seven Recurring Problems in Criminal Justice and provide examples of each.

Determine which of the Seven Recurring Problems in Criminal Justice apply to each of the four problems that you experience as a Sheriff (officer-involved shootings, police brutality, allegations of racial profiling, and officers answering questions from the media that are not authorized to do so). There could be more than on Recurring Problem for each of the four problems;

While comparing and Contrasting how Douglas McGregor’s Theory X and Theory Y managers would govern subordinates' actions in each of the four situations.

Theory X- treats workers as machines

Workers by nature work as little as possible. They lack ambition. Workers have to be directed and controlled. They are inherently self-centered and indifferent to the organization. People are resistant to change and are not very bright

The Theory X manager will follow a Military model with a focus on control, and punishments - the authoritarian management style. Control remains with the managers and the workers are constantly supervised

Theory y- a humane approach

People are neither passive nor resistant to organizational needs. They have the motivation, development potential. They also have the capacity for assuming responsibility and the readiness to direct behavior toward organizational. Management’s role is to arrange the system and help workers achieve their own goals

Officer-involved shootings-

Theory X manager will use punishments so that officers fear for further misdeeds

Theory Y manager will use punishment for what has been done. But at the same time, Theory Y manager will arrange for training police regarding ethics and responsibilities

Police brutality

Theory X manager will use punishments

Theory Y manager will use punishment for what has been done. But at the same time Theory Y manager will arrange for training police regarding ethics and responsibilities

Allegations of racial profiling

Theory X manager will use punishments and guidelines regarding racial issues

Theory Y manager will use punishment for what has been done. But at the same time Theory Y manager will arrange for training police regarding racial tolerance

Officers answering questions from the media that are not authorized to do so

Theory X manager will use punishments and guidelines

Theory Y manager will arrange for training police regarding duties, guidelines, and responsibilities

Outline a plan as a Criminal Justice Manager you plan to put in place to help mitigate the seven recurring ethical problems to the four situations in the future.

Instead of looking at each problem separately we can have a plan to address all of the issues using a holistic approach
