Question
Suppose a BestBuy analyst is interested in only the frequent patterns (i.e., item sets) from the sales transactions that satisfy certain constraints. For the following cases, state the characteristics of every constraint in each case and how to mine such patterns most efficiently (i.e. pruning).
(a) The profit range for the items in each pattern must be within $50.
(b) The sum of the price of all the items with profit over $5 in each pattern is at least $100.
(c) The average profit for those items priced over $50 in each pattern must be less than $10.
Explanation / Answer
Answer :
(a)
In Common Pattern mining we can mine based on certain conditions(constraints) as SQL statements.
Given that,
Constraint is the prot range for the items in each pattern must be within $50.
We can write the rule as (profit <= $50 and Support = 60%). and Interestingness constraint is Support and Confidence can be in percent then all the patterns which satisfies the minimum support can be retrieved as the Best Sales.
(b)
(profit >= $5 and sumOfProfits >= $100) and support = 60%.
(c)
((itemsPriced > $50)/totalItems < $10) and support = 60%.
