Figure 6-3 Comparison of Cloud and In-House Alternatives Cloud In-House Positive: Small capital requirements Control of data location Speedy development In-depth visibility of security and disaster preparedness Superior flexibility and adaptability to growing or fluctuating demand Known cost structure Possibly best-of-breed security/disaster preparedness No obsolescence Industry-wide economies of scale, hence cheaper Negative Dependency on vendor Loss of control over data location Little visibility into true security and disaster preparedness Significant capital required Significant development effort Annual maintenance costs capabilities Ongoing support costs Staff and train personnel Increased management requirements Difficult (impossible?) to accommodate fluctuating demand Cost uncertainties ObsolescenceExplanation / Answer
Cloud computing:
To define simply,Cloud computing is nothing but a technology that is used for the delivery of services and data over the internet. It enables so many organizations to consume compute resources like virtual machine (VMs), storage of data and applications rather than maintaining infrastructures in building. The simple process in cloud computing is nothing but storing data in cloud that means some virtual space which can be accesses using internet.
The main key terms that are coiming in our mind while defing cloud computing are:
Data:
To define data technically it is an information that is dtored and computed in the form that is useful for processing. In computers all data is stored in the form of binary bits.Exatracting data is becomingbeig task today. For this tehere are so many technologies like data processing and electronic data processing and information technology.
Starage:
To define simply storage is the place where electromagnetic of data is held for future access. There are so many storages like hard disk and tape systems and other forms of storage. For large organizations these options became very criticakl for storage and then cloud came into picture.
Internet:
The internet is interconnected global system of networks which used for the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP). It consists of private, public, academic networks of local to global place that is linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless networking technologies.
Comparison between cloud and inshhouse storages:
Cloud Storage
we all know that there are so many advantages by storing data in the cloud.
It is cost-effective and also maintenance is also small issue. With cloud storage we can gain scalability of data. Easy to increase space as notifying your service provider.
Even if disaster occur on-site data will remain safe. But accessing speed is one disadvantage. And another drawback is the lack of control on a public cloud.
Local Storage
The main advantage is Speed. In this method we stores data on external hard drives and faster comparing to cloud. Full control of backups is also an advanateg. While coming to drawbacks Creating and maintaining is costly. That cost depends on space and speed we need.
