Bowen is a HR manager at Huey Lockwood, a mining company. Bowen has little interest in doing his job effectively.
On the packed train he travels on into work one day, his mobile phone rings. He answers the call ‘Huey Lockwood. This is Bowen speaking.’ He tells the caller, his friend Joe, that he will be late for dinner as he needs to fire the four employees in the archives department.
Joe works for a competitor and tells Bowen that Petra and Gabby in his organisation’s archives department are thinking about changing jobs. He gives Bowen Petra’s and Gabby’s email addresses. Bowen gets to work and sends an email to Petra and Gabby. Gabby does not respond, but Petra does. Bowen makes arrangements to meet for lunch at his favourite café.
Bowen begins to go through the employee performance reviews. He realises he left an employee’s performance review on the train. He prints out another copy, but leaves it on the printer. Running out of time, he faxes a third copy to the café, along with a note to say he will be in for lunch as usual, and will want to review the document when he gets there.
He meets Petra for lunch and explains that the archiving department is about to be restructured as the four employees are about to be fired for poor performance issues. He thinks he developed a good rapport with Petra, and makes note of her address from her CV. Petra lives near him, and he resolves to drop by her house later in the week to ask whether she would like to go for a twilight walk.
Bowen gets back to the office and calls his friend Joe. He asks him to access Petra’s employment file to see if there is anything he should know about. They arrange to meet later that night so that Joe can give Bowen a printout of Petra’s employment record.

Bowen is introduced as an HR who shows very little interest in doing his job effectively and perfectly.A HR should always show sincerity and confidentiality in his job.He is the one who deals with all the employees profile in one way or the other.In this particular situation Bowen breaches confidentiality in all the matter he deals with.

1.He talks to his friend in a train about firing four of his company employees.During a public commutation there are possibilities of many overhearing the conversation and interpreting it in many ways.

2.Company issues and employee related issues are not supposed to be spoken in the public.

3.Informing his friend about the job vacancy he proceeds to mail the two employees who were referred by his friend working for the competitors.

4.It is not an HR s duty to mail a person and invite for job.

5.He is so careless that he leaves an employee performance review.

6.He personally contacts Petra and tries to impress her regarding job.

7.Bowen also personally invites her for a walk which a professional HR is not supposed to do at any cost.

Bowen has done everything in a wrong way.He should not talk about firing employees.Even if his friend has referred two candidates, the formal procedure is that they should have applied for the Job at any cost.He should not personally mail them and contact them out of of office.He should have formally called them for interview and checked their credentials. If they are fit for the position he should have hired them.But Bowen did not do any of those procedure wise there by going against the rule of Hr.
