Microaggression can be defined as any kind of statement, incident or action which can be treated as an instance of subtle, indirect or unintentional discrimination against the members of the marginalized group, for example, a racial or ethnic minority.
It is, in fact, a casual degradation of any kind of marginalized group. This term was first of all pointed by psychiatrist and Harvard University professor Chester M. Pierce in 1970 in which he tried to explain the insults and dismissals which Afro Americans experienced from Non-black Americans.
The following methods can be used to avoid microaggression:-
Understanding the diversity which exists in the society and respecting the values, cultural and individual differences.
Try to listen to others and their perspective and creating the ideas which should be gentle with others
Avoiding those communications which can have the feel of discrimination, avoidance or insult.
Focusing on the events rather than on the individuals
Using respectful, soft and generous language.
Treating and valuing each individual equally irrespective of their sex, ethnicity, race and so on.
