Question

You will provide detailed network design proposal. Your task is to design the network for this new building with the following criteria:

Student-accessed computers should be on separate network from the staff-accessed computers. Computers for public use should be on a separate network.

There must be a minimum of 40 Mbps Internet connection, with a backup line capable of at least 20Mbps. Cable, DSL, or FIOS should not be used for primary Internet service.

The network should use physical cable, not wireless. But do provide wireless access in the Student Lobby area (second-floor hallway). Set the maximum simultaneous wireless users to 254.

The network has been assigned the 10.11.12.0/23 network address for all computers and devices

Your proposal should have three major sections:

Physical Network Design

Network Addressing

Network Services Design

To learn how you will be assessed on this assignment, please take a moment to review the rubric. The final deliverable should adhere to the following criteria:

Include at least five scholarly references.

Use IEEE-style citation.

Use correct network terminology.

The use of diagrams is encouraged.

Explanation / Answer

Hi

Let us assume that total number of student and teachers not excceding 254.

Let us assume the cisco devices are being used as network devices.

we have 10.11.12.0/23 network which will be catering the students, teachers and network devices.Total usable IP address would be from 10.11.12.1 to 10.11.13.254.

since we have to keep student network separate from teachers , let us divide the 10.11.12.0/23 into two subnet.

Let us have a Primary line of 40 Mbps and secondary of 20 mbps from service provider.

Service provider install the CE (customer edge ) router for primary and secondary line.

HSRP to be configured in CE cisco router .HSRP enables us to use primary line based on priority and if primary line goes down , secondary will automatically be carrying traffic.

Both CE cisco routers will be connected to our L3 cisco switch where the VLAN STUDENT & TEACHERS are defined.

The gaetway of each VLANs in L3 switch would the virtual IP of HSRP .

Access switches are directly connected to

Now the users are connected to access switches (cisco L2 switch) , where the students PCs are connected to switch interfaces (which are in STUDENT VLAN) and teachers PC are connected to interfaces (which are in TEACHERS VLAN).Note : VLANs are defined at L3 switch and the same is being used on access switch , one may create the same VLANs or VTP can be used.

Access points to be used for wifi services.(Note : either we can further devide the network into small subnet in order to cater the wifi users or we can have separate a /24 network for wifi user. It is recommended that the in Lobby the wifi users should share the same network in order to avoid disconnection . since one access point is supposed to be in a single VLAN.). we will use cisco autonomous access point as per our requirement.

(Note : we are not considering firewall in the network since we have not been given the specific security consideration in question).

I regret not to use IEEE citation or scholarly reference.

Thanks
