I have been supporting ERP systems for nearly 20 years. The great thing about the ERP system is the integration between modules. In supply chain, the sales order management module drives demand. Then MRP picks up the demand which will either create a purchase order for purchased goods or a production order for manufactured goods. Completed production orders and receipts of purchased goods automatically update the inventory quantities. Then all modules feed back to the financial or general ledger of the organization.

Aaron Continelli explains how ERP still has its place in the new Industry 4.0. ERP can be leveraged to analyze all the data returned from the IoT devices. Real-time updates can be made in the Bill of Materials based on sensors deployed on product. The sensors can also feed back maintenance needs to the customer service or field service teams.

It has many modules which works together to accomplish a particular task. For example: To supply an order , it has Material resource planning ( MRP ) module which will handle all the required inventory with integration of Supply chain and logistics module. ERP has many advantages as it reduces the cost of operations, faster decision making , integrated system of information sourcing for top level mangers. Stocks can be managed well by ERP software. It helps in building the CRM activities more flexible and successful one.

ERP helps in real times updates regarding information processing by various department of the organization. It is useful in making customer friendly environment within organization. It tracks the problem areas and support to avoid the big problems which might be faced by the organization. This is the reason why companies are relying heavily on the ERP system.
