Answer)
i) The different classes of computers.
There are different classes of computers of these computers have a different use in the world and those who use them have different purposes.
Notebooks - A notebook computer is a battery powered portable computer which can be easily transported from one place to another with ease and can be used in any place in temporary spaces when you have some work. These are typically known as laptops now.
Netbooks - A netbook is a low powered than a notebook and smaller than the notebook used mainly for accessing and writing word processing docs, running and doing activities on the web browser.
Tablets - A tablet computer is a portable computer smaller than a netbook and notebook, having a mobile OS such as Android, AppleOS for mobile having an LCD touchscreen display usable for media and other tasks having limited processing power and storage.
Desktops - Desktops are larger and powerful than the notebook, netbook, and tablets and are typically used as PCs in the personal user space for doing a wide variety of things such as processing, accessing the internet, media access etc. Desktops are full-fledged computers.
Workstations - Workstations are special computers which are specifically designed for the technical and scientific application running and run multi-user OSs.
ii) The main reasons for the shift towards multi-core processors over single core processors in the year 2003 are:
a) Making the processors faster and double the computational power of the chip, which is required in multi-processing and running parallel activities.
b) Less power consumption than using different computers for running separate activities.
c) Better heat dissipation
iii) The major factors contributing to integrated circuit cost are:
a) Die cost
b) Testing cost
c) Packaging cost
d) Shipping cost
iv) Amdahl's law is the law which calculates the execution time of a program or algorithm after the optimization and parallelization have occurred. Amdahl's law is mainly used to predict the theoretical maximum speedup for a program which is using multiple processors and thus finding out the maximum improvement possible.
