Question

Problem #1

A 10.0 kg ball rests suspended by the 5.0 m long weightless string. It experiences a central perfectly elastic collision with the 10 grams ball traveling at 800m/s as shown in the picture above. (image are in the link below).

Calculate: 1) The velocity of both balls right after the collision.

2) the maximum change in height the big ball will gain after the collision.

3) the maximum deflection angle ? (alpha) for the large ball.

Problem #2

A 10 gram ball traveling at 800m/s strikes the cylinder made of clay off the center (cylinder diameter 30cm, mass 10.0 kg). Small ball gets stuck in the cylinder10 cm from the center as shown in picture above (image in link below). Collision is perfectly inelastic. Cylinder is pinned in the center and starts rotating after the collision.

Calculate: 1) Angular velocity, frequency, and Period of the cylinder rotation after collision.

2) Linear velocity of the small ball imbedded into the cylinder after collision.

3) Torque that would stop the cylinder rotation in 10 seconds.
