Question
1) The lecture describes two types of events which change the normal flow of control in the processor. Briefly describe each type of event and explain why each is needed. (Please use a separate paragraph for each type of event.)
4). Over the past decade, processor manufacturers, like Intel, have used various technologies to increase system performance. Describe in detail 3 of these technologies as discussed in the online content. (Please use a separate paragraph for each technology.)
5). The speed of a computer system isn’t based solely on the speed of the processor. Discuss how cache memory and newer busses have contributed to faster computer systems over the years.
Explanation / Answer
Answer)
1) There are many events which have changed the normal flow of the control in the processor are as follows:
Two of them are 1) Multiple early exit/exit from the nested loop.
Here exit-when is conceptually the exception handling mechanism and is proposed in many languages. This is also used for specifying the events which might be occurring within the loop.
2) Loop with the test in the middle:
This uses a while loop or a do while loop as per the omission of the statement.
This is mostly needed when more than one while test is made within the loop whereas exit-when is used to cover the case.
4) The 3 technology to improve the system performance can be as follows:
Malware protection: This helped to remove the malware and viruses hence making the system run faster.
Faster drive and better video card: This will help to run the system faster.
Use of RAID: This can make the read and write in the disk get slowed down hence choosing a RAID which fits the best would help in increasing the performance.
5) Cache memory is trending these days as they are also referred to as CPU memory but is defined as a high speed static random access memory(SRAM) which is a computer microprocessor that accesses the data quickly and keeps it within itself so as to lessen the hit ratio.
