The performance of a network application is influenced by two major network characteristics: the bandwidth of the network (number of bits per second that the network can transport) and the latency (the delay experienced by each bit transported). Identify the requirements of the following applications in terms of bandwidth and latency, and then give an example of a specific network technology (not media nor LAN, MAN and WAN) that is suitable for each of these applications:
i) File transfers between Sydney and Japan
ii) Bandwidth intensive interactive gaming using smartphone
iii) Internet connections for remote areas
iv) Connecting a large number of real-time low data transmissions sensors for critical event notification
v) Transferring a large file from local computer to a local server

Yes the given statement is correct the performance of a Network application depends on the bandwidth (number of bits can be transported per second over the network) and latency (the delay experienced by each bit transported).The following are the requirements for the given questions in terms of bandwidth and latency,
1). For the file transfer between sydney and japan the Wired Area Network (WAN) will be the best solution. The example for this connection would be theSuppose Company A in USA want to send a file to a company B in UK, then the WAN is the best solution, since it will provides high bandwidth and high latency and less error rate. WAN works in either point-to-point connection (through private lines) or Packet-switched networks (using circuits)
2).For the case of bandwidth intensive interactive gaming using the smartphone the PAN (Personal Area Network) will be best solution, since it required for smaller distance the PAN is best.Example, let's take Person ABC wants play a game using internet then PAN will be best. Best PAN is bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
3).In case of Internet connection for remote areas,the wireless communication channels like Wireless wired Area Network and WMAN, and etc.. using POTS and DSL. Example for this case would be Suppose AVB village which was remotely located if we want to provide internet connection we can use the WMAN, WWAN using wireless tecnologies.
4). For the Connecting a large number of real-time low data transmissions sensors for critical event notification We will use the wireless personal Area Network categories by Wireless Sensore Networks. In case of a network connected with set of sensors to tranmit the Data the Best Technology would be WSN(Wireless Sensing Network).
5). In the case of Transferring a large file from local computer to a local server In this case LAN's works fine and provides best results example A person uploading from a computer connected to LAN and server connected to same server the performance will be better in this case.
Although there are many other network technologies available, These are the best solution in my opinion for the above mentioned five applications.
