Question
When consuming a visualisation, the viewer will go These are not just synonyms for the ough a process of understanding involving three stages: perceiving, interpreting and comprehending (Figure 1.3). Each stage is dependent on the previous one and in vour role as a data visualiser you will have influence but not full control over these. You are same word, rather they carry important distinctions that need appreciating. As you will see throughout this book, the subtleties and semantics of language in data visualisation will be a recurring concern Select 1 of the three stages and expand on the author's comments. In 250-300 words iewer - what they know and do not know, what they are interested in knowing and what might be meaningful to them - and this introduces many variables outside of your control: where your control diminishes the influence and reliance on the viewer increases. Achieving arn outcome of understanding is therefore a collective responsibility between visualiser and viewer largely at the mercy of the v ding Perceiving Interpreting Comprehending What does it show? What does it mean? Where is big, medium, small? How do things compare? What relationships exist? What is good and bad? Is it meaningful or insignificant? Unusual or expected? What does it mean to me? What are the main messages? What have I learnt? Any actions to take?Explanation / Answer
In any context maybe its reading, any conversation, or any interaction three things always comes into picture that is the Perceiving, Interpreting and the Comprehending. The first stage is the Perceiving which what the speaker is telling. But the second stage is the most important one. It is the Interpreting one. This is because it shows that how a person is interpreting the context which is being shown or told by a speaker. Interpretation of a small thing can be different from person to person. But a right interpretation of a context will be similar somewhat with everyone. Let us take an example of a gloomy sky. Now let us have different kind of people like a weather analyst, a painter, a poet, a taxi driver. So for the weather analyst it is like the current weather condition of the place by taking into consideration all the temperature, humidity, pressure of that place. So he will conclude about surrounding weather for that place. Now if we look in the painter to him it’s a subject of which he portray through is colors. His color will give rise to a beautiful composition and nothing else. Now if we come to the poet then he will have a different exposure to it. He will portrait it as gloomy to be a sad state of a person mind. The person is going from rough sad phase of his life. And this will be the poet’s version. At last we come to the taxi driver for him it’s just a weather but he is more concerned about the next what will happen. Like if it rains then there will be less earning or else he will have a good earn. So one simple subject is having a different exposure from different people.Interpretation gives what you can perceive from a context.
