This action is legal but not ethical.Organization search the prospect which can fit for the role they offered.It is a common practice that the recruiter make a background checkof the prospect so that the recruiter can gather more information about the candidate.In this case the recruiter got the information from social media site and did not hack the account of the candidate or anything else.It is legal but unethical because seeking information of someone by following and a kind of stalking on social media is unethical.In this case the social media account of the candidate is not for professional connect but only for social connection.The lesson is that your private information never remain private if posted in social media it can be seen by people.In this case due to this information the candidate was not called for interview atleast.

Social media password is only to be used by any person solely for private purpose and it cannot be share with anyone.Even if parents can't ask social media password to their grwon up child.It is a part of right to privacy.A recruiter cannot ask for password it is a cognigable offence.
